WeFeel App Privacy Policy
The app privacy policy – for people who aren’t lawyers.
What personal data does WeFeel *really* collect about you?
WeFeel knows all! Ok, not really. In fact we wrote this app in a way that makes it nearly impossible for us or anyone else to identify you at all. There are a couple ways specifically that we do this: you buy the app via an app store and you login using outside services like Facebook and Google.
Doing it this way means we don’t have your credit card or social security number. We don’t even have your email address, we don’t want your exact birth date, and we generalize any location data we have about you.
This doesn’t mean we don’t know anything. We track how people use the app, which may include your IP address. We also store all of the very personal things you enter as Journal, Emotion Entries, and so on. The provider you login with may collect authentication information according to their privacy policy as well.
Keeping all of that safe is serious business which is why we do what we can to protect it. There’s more about that below in “How do we secure data?”
What does WeFeel share with other people?
WeFeel will never sell your personally identifiable information to a third party. It’s kind of hard to do that since we don’t have it. But, even if we did have it we wouldn’t.
That being said you have the option to opt-in to share your non-personally identifiable information so we can allow researchers to access it. This includes emotion entries and any demographic data you choose to share. We really hope you do that…. ’cause SCIENCE! If you opt in to share with researchers, when we share data we remove any notes you have and we will never share Journal Entries.
What are you responsible for?
You have the ability to share entries with other people; that’s what makes it so useful. Because WeFeel can’t control how you chose to share your data, we can’t be responsible for anything that happens to the data once you share it. So be smart about it!
How do I stop sharing?
To stop sharing data for research purposes just delete your initials under the “May we share your data anonymously?” question in the “Personal Settings” section of the account page.
To stop sharing with someone else you need to remove them from the “People I’ve shared with” section of the account settings page. To do that click the minus button next to their name or (depending on device) tap and hold, or swipe left or right and ok the deletion.
How do we secure data?
We take security very seriously. All data is transmitted securely, and stored using services provided by the Microsoft Azure Cloud. To access a specific account a person must login using the proper credentials from the application itself. If your authentication service offers enhanced security such as two-factor authentication, WeFeel will also make use of that.
In addition to securely transmitting data and requiring authentication to our service, we also obfuscate the information stored on our end that helps your device find your data. That’s just a fancy way of saying we turn the “stuff” that lets your device download data into random letters. This way we don’t have to use your email address to find your data.
What if I have questions/comments about this privacy policy?
We take your feedback seriously. If you have any issues or comments, please email us at: support@wefeel.us
Legal Stuff
This is actually important, so please read it. For those who can’t be bothered (we feel you!) you can always find this information here on our website.
While we try to keep things lighthearted, the reality is WeFeel deals with sensitive emotions and situations; there may be times when you or someone you love needs help beyond what can be found in our service.
WeFeel has to maintain a delicate balance between allowing you to enter your true emotions, enabling you to share those feelings with others, and gathering data for future research all while maintaining your anonymity. To make sure you feel safe we have chosen to create a system where it is physically impossible for us to find or monitor individual accounts.
We do this so you will feel comfortable entering your true intensity of emotion without judgement. We cannot detect when someone is in a state of emotional crisis. So please log how you feel openly and honestly, and use the service to allow you to take a moment in times of crisis to reflect on the fact that it is ok to feel what you are feeling and that it is also OK to get help from a professional, family member, friend, or any local crisis line available in your area.
WeFeel cannot be help responsible for notifying those you share data with, local authorities, parents or any other entity when you are in crisis. By using this service you agree to these terms and those found on our website and listed when you downloaded our app.
